Tripp Lite HT1210ISOCTR Review by Big-D (Lake Havasu City, AZ United States)

Tripp-Lite HT1210ISOCTR Home Theater IsPRar Power Center w/ remote 12 outlets 5700 Joules

OK, so you go out and buy this top-of-the-line audio & video gear to give yourself the ultimate system to watch movies and listen to your favorite tunes. But unless you protect it, it could all be ruined in a matter of seconds should you experience a sudden surge of power (voltage or amps) or even over long term voltage drops.

I've had the different power strips and surge protectors that have huge cords that are almost impossible to hide, the switch is usually on the wrong end and they just get in the way. My advice to you is, if you buy a $5000+ AV system; don't protect it with a $35 surge protector.

I went with the Tripp-Lite model HT1210ISOCTR Surge/ Power Center. Yes, it's not cheap. Yes, there are other brands out there that claim to offer the same type of protection, but many are over rated. Do your research and you'll find that in the price range of this model I bought, it offers the most protection and extra features. I paid $253, which sounds like a lot, but my new AV system is my pride and joy and set me back some serious change. I can't afford to replace it because of power surges or sudden drops.

This Tripp-Lite looks great too and allows you to plug everything in without the typical big ugly plug hanging down in the way. You'll be happy with Tripp-Lite and you'll be even happier that you went with good high quality products to protect your AV investment.

If you are anything like me and want the most for your money, do your research, read the reviews, buy the best you can afford and protect it with a Tripp-Lite Power Center. You won't be sorry you did.

Summary: I don't mean to sound like a commercial, but I am totally and completely happy with my AV system and want to let everyone know that you get what you pay for and once you achieve that desire of having the AV system you've always wanted, take care of it and it will give you pleasure for many years. Don't spend your hard earned money on top-notch products and then skimp on the products it takes to protect your components.

My only complaint was the color I was sent. I ordered my Tripp-Lite in black to match my other components, but received one in a silver finish. But it looked really good against my black components, so I decided to keep it. My system looks totally awesome.

Tripp Lite HT1210ISOCTR Review by Michael Doyle (Visalia, CA United States)

This power controller is almost identical to the Tripp Lite Isobar Audio/Video Power Conditioning Center HT7300PC which for some unfathomable reason sells for almost $100 more (Could it be the black anodized face plate?....nahhhh...!) I like the fact that the four remotely controlled (Tripp Lite calls them IR) sections can be switched from both the front panel AND the handheld remote. The remote is a bit quirky though. It must be held almost directly in front of the main unit to have any effect. The remote is not very off-axis tolerant. The rear panel mounted sockets are high quality 'hospital grade' paired units, comfortably spaced, and they are rigidly mounted to the chassis so you get a good 'build-quality' feel when you plug the mains cords in from your various equipment. The front panel design with its controls and indicators is attractive and well conceived. I especially like the large blue current display (since we are actually paying for the Amperes we use - not the Volts...) and the overall LED and fluorescent power indicator color scheme. The unit looks great all lit up in my low-light media room. As far as its actual filtering and isolating characteristics are concerned I can say that after about 18 months of yeoman's service controlling six beefy Crown amplifiers there hasn't been so much as a single squeak or pop out of those amps that wasn't sent there by the audio controller. I'd go FIVE STARS but for the fact that the remote is so finicky - That's gotta cost about a HALF STAR.

Tripp Lite HT1210ISOCTR Review by A. Doss (Los Angeles)

Slowly been upgrading my AV rack and wanted to minimize phantom power draw from my game consoles (the PS3 and xbox 360 consume more power than I like in standby). Researched Panamax, Smart Strip, and Monster. I wanted something that was clean power, would let me monitor my draw and I didn't have to get off the couch to turn off various components completely.

I've used the Smart Strip upstairs and it's great, but I was tired of rolling my AV rack in the living up close to the wall, only to have the power strip between the rack and the wall.

So, I wanted something that was rackmountable. I've used Tripp Lites for my computer racks....and was glad to see they have a Home Theater variant of their systems...was even more please to see they had a remote control with 4 "switchable" outlets on the back, which could be turned on by the front of the unit or the remote.

The unit shipped with rack ears, removable feet, a network cable, Coax cable and an angled power cord. The Unit itself has a nice from aluminum fascia. And the blue indicators (voltage from the line and amps drawn) is nicely lit blue color.

For the price, it's a great product with some features not found from Panamax or Monster....and sometimes Monster scares me with their approach to business practices.

Cons....the remote control that shipped with the unit is pretty flimsy and, in my case, even with repeated walkthroughs from Tripp Lite customer service (who are really top notch) I couldn't get the remote control to "sync" with the unit. Thereby, my want to sit on the couch and turn various components totally on or off (not just standby) was defeated. I've RMA'd the first unit, hope to get the problem solved shortly. Changed batteries. Repeated their sync process inches away from the IR receiver. Even tried to use a universal learning remote to learn the signals...but the remote wasn't spitting anything out.

I'm hopeful Tripp Lite Customer Service will be able to send me a new unit, otherwise I may go get a Panamax and just use the 12v trigger and put my receiver on an unswitched/always on outlet. Or wait for the Monster "green" series to include a rackmount variant with a remote.

It's a great price for a great looking unit and has some features other manufacturer's don't. But, the remote contrallability is a bit of an issue for me. Their customer service is great, so don't hesitate to test one yourself....I hope my unit is just an isolated incident.
