I am no stranger to ups, I have 3 apc, 1 mge , 2 belkin , and 1 large power sentry. The 2 belkins died after about 5 years so I figured I got my money's worth out of them. Back to the Cyberpower, It looks good, is silent when in use, and love the lcd display, however plugged in the cyberpower, lcd lit up and noticed the voltage was swinging wildly from 99 to 135 volts. Unplugged my equipment from it and watched the voltage, same thing. My next step was to measure the voltage at the wall 119 volts and steady. Then the ups blinked out. I thought it died and that was that, After about 5 more minutes smoke poured out the top. Remembered it is a ups, opened the battery door and tried to remove the battery. Couldn't budge the battery as it had swelled and wedged in the case. Pulled harder and it barely slipped out, however the battery was too hot to touch. threw the battery outside and retrieved it after 2 hours. If I was not at home when it started acting up, It could have burned my house down. As usual Amazon was wonderful, sent me a prepaid shipping label and replaced it immediately. I assume that this can happen on any ups, however this was the only one that smoked and burned.

I just returned a Belkin F6C550-AVR and got this CP850AVRLCD instead. It's *much* better than the Belkin in every way but one: The Belkin can tell the computer to Hibernate in case of outage, while the CyberPower can only tell it to Shutdown. Guess what, if you're not at your desk or are asleep when a 10-15 minute outage happens, you still lose any unsaved changes. Might as well have a garden variety surge protector. If you leave your machine running, and you live where sustained outages are a problem, then this unit might not be for you (unless CyberPower decides to update the software, hint hint.)
But the good things are:
1) Nice form factor
2) When charged and nothing is plugged into it, it only draws 7 watts.
3) Software is intuitive and easy to use. Gives you all the useful status info you need
4) LCD panel is very nice. Also gives you the status info you need.
5) AVR - seems to be a true line-interactive regulated supply
So anyone from CyberPower, if you're reading this, please submit this feature request to enable hibernation in the PowerPanel Personal software. It's a gaping hole in the feature set of this product. (BTW, I'm running version 1.2) If this feature is added, my review changes to 5 stars. Thanks.

i didnt really need a UPS with this much capacity, but with all the stuff i needed to plug into one, i had to buy this due to its number of outlets...i'm not the least disappointed though. i highly recommend it to anyhone who needs to protect a halfdozen or so pieces of electronic equipment. as far as it having enough juice to keep my pc (and everything else plugged into it) running during a power outage, with everything turned on and running, i have 20-21 minutes of backup power from it, which is plenty of time to get things shut down.
IMO...Belkin and APC are only "big names" in the industry, not necessarily the best in quality, i've only had a few other CyberPower things and have never had any problems with any of them is why i decided on this one.
the only real nitpick i have is that with the power cables of many things these days and their huge transformers at the plug end, there's just barely enough room to plug everything into the UPS, not the fault of the UPS, just a fact we all have to live with i guess...lol...i managed to get creative and get all but 1 external HD plugged into my CyberPower UPS.
